Patricia Arqutte got Meryl Streep out of her seat whooping calling for equality and fair pay as she accepted her award for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars.

See the follow up to her onstage speach as she argued the case for actresses and women in America.

Emily Blunt was awarded best actress in an action movie for The Edge Of Tomorrow and said something we couldn't help but agree with.

She described it as 'the greatest thing ever to not be a damsel in distress in an action movie. So cool! I will forever be so grateful for the title "full-metal b*tch"!'

Juliane Moore won Best Actress for Still Alice for the second time and was full of praise for her fellow actresses, as well as making comment on the dearth of films with a majority female cast.

She said, 'I'm a "girl's girl". I love talking to women, being with women, acting with women, and one of the things about being an actress is you never get to act with other women.

'That doesn't mean I'm not watching, you inspire me.'

Maggie Gyllenhaal's speech said something really great about TV – long may it continue.

She said, 'I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about the wealth of roles for powerful women in television lately, and when I look around the room at the women who are in here and I think about the performances that I’ve watched this year, what I see actually are women who are sometimes powerful and sometimes not.

'Sometimes sexy, sometimes not. Sometimes honourable, sometimes not. And what I think is new is the wealth of roles for actual women in television and in film.'

Tina and Amy's presenting gig was full of witty, feminist bits - we picked out two favourites.

Amy said, 'Patricia Arquette is here, so wonderful. So, so wonderful in the film Boyhood. Boyhood proves there are still great roles for women over 40, as long as you get hired when you're under 40.'

Tina also quipped, 'Steve Carell's Foxcatcher look took two hours to put on, including his hairstyling and make up. Just for comparison, it took me three hours today to prepare for my role as "human woman".'
