A Touch Of Cloth fans, listen up! Black Mirror’s creator is releasing a ‘stunningly original‘ detective drama

We know and love Charlie Brooker for his dystopian take on technology in Black Mirror, but here’s something a little different from the TV ace. Untitled Charlie Brooker Project (yes, that is a working title!) is a four-part detective drama coming to Netflix that promises a ‘stunningly original’ premise but – knowing Brooker – there’s sure to be a satirical slant on the genre!

According to Netflix, it follows a tormented detective from a fictional Northern city, who comes down to London to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they claim even more victims. Described as full of ‘blood and frowning’, it features a star-packed cast including MobLand’s Paddy Considine, Game Of Thrones’ Lena Headey and Suspicion’s Georgina Campbell.

What is Untitled Charlie Brooker Project about?

As we mentioned, this four-part series is yet to have an official name, but currently has the working title of Untitled Charlie Brooker Project. It follows a ‘tormented’ detective from the Northern city of Bleakford, who ‘ventures down to London on a mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of people to kill’. Brooker added that the show ‘contains blood and frowning’.

The series is being directed by longtime Brooker affiliate Al Campbell, the talent behind Screenwipe, Newswipe and Death To 2020, and the series stars Georgina Campbell – who featured in Black Mirror episode ‘Hang The DJ’. Charlie Brooker is no stranger to crime dramas, as he co-created the Sky police procedural satire A Touch Of Cloth, starring Suranne Jones, which ran from 2012-2014. Perhaps Untitled Charlie Brooker Project will be to detective dramas what A Touch Of Cloth was to police procedurals!

In characteristic Charlie Brooker sardonic style, he commented: ‘I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release. I’ve dreamed of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself but, like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.’
