If you’ve been waiting for something as good as Line of Duty to fill the police drama-shaped hole in your life, then you’re in luck! Netflix has answered our prayers and is bringing us The New Force, a Nordic series with an astounding true story at the heart of it. Set in the late 1950s, the drama follows Sweden's first female police officers after they graduate and find themselves navigating the country's most crime-ridden district - as well as their fair share of misogyny along the way.
These pioneering are proudly taking a huge step for gender equality - but it also comes at a price. You see, they’re up against far more than criminals roaming the challenging district they’ve been put in charge of. Their biggest challenge? Colleagues, Stockholm's locals and society as a whole. The question is, will their naysayers stop these women from succeeding?
While we wait for The New Force to arrive on our screens, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming series, including the plot, cast and release date.

What is The New Force about?
As we mentioned, The New Force is set in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1958 and is centred around the country’s first female police officers as they graduate and are placed in the city’s most dangerous district. It's a huge leap for gender equality and the small group of pioneers but, according to Netflix, they struggle "to take even the smallest step themselves, as the skirts they're forced to wear chafe like sandpaper against their thighs.”
The official synopsis continues: “They are ridiculed by the public, belittled by the media, and scorned by their colleagues. The new recruits are placed in the country's most crime-ridden district; the Klara police district in Stockholm, and as they start patrolling the streets of Stockholm, they soon realise that their biggest problem isn't the criminals; instead, the resistance comes from colleagues and the society as a whole.”
