For a savoury option, give the camembert and tomato tarts a go. Requiring just four ingredients and taking only 20min, these tasty tarts are the perfect lunch or speedy dinner choice.
The key to a great tart is the pastry, whether it's filo, shortcrust or puff. Some of these recipes use shop bought pastry for ease, but if the recipe calls for a homemade shortcrust pastry; here are our top tips:
• Don't over work your pastry as overworking it will develop the gluten making it tough. Only whizz your ingredients until just combined and only rollout out once
• Always chill your pastry before baking. This helps the gluten to relax which will prevent shrinkage in the oven
• It is essential to use cold butter and water (if the recipe calls for water) in your pastry as it will help ensure crisp pastry
• Always blind bake your pastry before pouring any filling in. This allows the pastry to cook all the way through, resulting in a crisp base
