Yes, you can cook your cheese toastie in the air fryer, and it’s much easier than faffing about with a frying pan or hot grill. We’ve kept things simple with this recipe, but you can, of course, pimp it up as desired. Pickles, sliced tomatoes, kimchi and sauerkraut would all be delicious additions.

Ingredients
2
slices thick white bread
1Tbsp.
butter, softened
50g
mature Cheddar, sliced, or use pre-prepared cheese slices
1Tbsp.
chutney or chilli jam, optional
Directions
Step 1Butter the slices of bread and place on a board, butter-side down. Top one of the slices with the cheese and spread the other slice with chutney or chilli jam, if using. Sandwich back together, so the butter stays on the outside.
Step 2Preheat the air fryer to 180°C. Place the toastie into the air fryer basket and cook for 8min, turning halfway through.
TIPs Buttering the outside of your bread helps give the toastie a lovely golden and crispy exterior in the air fryer. Sourdough bread would also work well, and would give you a nice depth of flavour and satisfying chew.
You don’t have to just stick with Cheddar, other cheeses such as Red Leicester, Brie or even blue cheese would also work well.
If you’re a ham fan, add a slice before topping with the cheese.
