At Good Housekeeping we’re always tracking for fashion items that do more than their stylish exterior might suggest. Case in point are these Biom Lite Ballerina shoes, designed by the excellent former Chloe creative director Natacha Ramsay-Levi for Danish footwear brand Ecco.
Ecco itself might not exactly be famous for high fashion pieces, but it is famous for tried, tested and trusted quality, comfort and practicality for those who live an active life.
Fuse this with Ramsay-Levi’s magic design touch, and, well, you get the Biom Lite Ballerina which, with its slim silhouette and elegant criss-cross laces is part proper walking shoe, part trainer, part Ghillie Scottish dancing shoe, part ballerina and all chic.

A super-hybrid if you like, and it is exactly this fusion of fashion and usefulness with a priority on foot comfort that makes it my personal recommendation for the everyday fashion shoe of autumn.
And I am not alone in this. Zendaya has been seen wearing them, and actress Chloe Sevigny loves hers so much she has worn them non-stop all year, so much so Ecco hired her to be the face, and feet, of a recent campaign.
I’ve written here before about the foot complaints I’ve stacked up over the years. These include a Morton’s Neuroma – painful nerve condition that is the result of years wearing foot-crushing high heels – a broken toe, and an ankle so full of metal after a triple break that very high heels are off the menu for me, permanently.
So to the Biom Lite Ballerina, which apart from coming in three of autumn/winter 2025 most relevant shades - soft grey, black and cherry red - also utilises Ecco's Biom Natural Motion technology, which mimics the natural contours of your feet, and cushions every step.
Perhaps the very best part of all this, thanks to the new fashion season kicking off today, you can easily find your perfect pair in all three colours on the Ecco site now, in a full range of sizes, from 2.5 to 9.5 for a well-priced £110.
It is not often I get to recommend something I love, that is also fully stocked at the time of writing, so if these shoe feel like they should be yours, they can be.
