- Sheinelle's co-host Savannah Guthrie revealed she will return to Today on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The Today show just announced major news about Sheinelle Jones ... and her friend Savannah Guthrie got emotional about what the TV host is doing next.
On September 2, viewers of the NBC morning show learned Sheinelle will return to Today starting on Friday, September 5, 2025. The news of Sheinelle making her way back to TV comes after a nine-month leave of absence, along with the devastating loss of her husband Uche Ojeh in May 2025 at age 45 from brain cancer.
While some of the news anchor's colleagues have given updates about her in the past, Savannah shared she and Sheinelle will have an intimate conversation that'll allow the latter to share her own words about the experience. What's more, fans will get the chance to see the women discuss how Sheinelle is holding up for her children Kayin, Uche and Clara (whom she shared with Uche) amid the tragic loss.
"This Friday, our beloved Sheinelle will be returning to the show," she emotionally shared in a clip posted on Instagram. "She and her family have been through so much after the devastating loss of her husband, Uche, and we recently sat down together. We shared a really personal conversation, talking about how she has carried on and found the strength these last few months. She calls this experience a 'beautiful nightmare,' and she has thoughts on grief that are so touching."
"[Sheinelle's] got a special message of hope, too, for anybody facing their own struggles, and we will share that with you," Shavannah added. "We cannot wait to welcome Sheinelle home, right where she belongs, right here in our studio, Studio 1A."
As fans learned that Sheinelle would be returning to Today this month, many couldn't help but voice their thoughts about seeing her on their screens once again.
"She’s been so very missed, but right where she was most needed with her family. ❤️," one person wrote in the comments. "Best news. She was deeply missed by many ❤️❤️," another agreed. "Yay! Soooo happy our precious @sheinelle_o is coming back to the Today Show! We’ve missed you so much and can’t wait to see you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️," a different follower added.
Although Sheinelle has primarily stayed quiet amid her TV absence, she did express her gratitude for people's support after Uche's death back in May. And before that, she stated on Instagram just how much having everyone stand by her meant throughout this difficult time.
"Hi everybody ... I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I've been absent from the show," she wrote on Instagram back in January. "I want to share with you that I'm taking time to deal with a family health matter. It's not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me. I'll see you soon."
We look forward to seeing Sheinelle back on TV very soon.
