Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups

    all-purpose flour

  • 2 Tbsp.

unsweetened cocoa powder, plus some for coating

  • 1 tsp.

    baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp.

    kosher salt

  • 1/2 tsp.

    cinnamon

  • 1 1/4 cups

    granulated sugar

  • 4 Tbsp.

    (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted

  • 1/2 tsp.

    red food color gel

  • 1 tsp.

    vanilla extract

  • 2

    large eggs

Directions

    1. Step 1Sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
    2. Step 2In large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, butter, food coloring, vanilla, and eggs. Fold flour mixture into sugar mixture until smooth. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes (it will still be soft).
    3. Step 3Heat oven to 375°F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
    4. Step 4Place some cocoa powder in shallow bowl. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls, then completely coat in cocoa and transfer prepared baking sheets, spacing 3 inches apart.
    5. Step 5Bake until cookies are slightly firm to the touch, about 12 to 14 minutes. Let cool on baking sheet 10 minutes. Repeat with remaining dough.

Tip: Use black cocoa powder for an extra-spooky effect (we like King Arthur!)
