Five-Spice Hoisin Ribs

Seasoned with Chinese five-spice powder and a hoisin glaze, these ribs are a Chinese twist on traditional barbecue fare. These ribs are a variation on our Ribs with Carolina Barbecue Sauce recipe (pictured).

Ingredients
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. Freshly ground black pepper
- 2 rack St. Louis–style pork ribs
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 Tbsp. lower-sodium soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp. lower-sodium fish sauce
- 4 clove garlic
- 2 Tbsp. grated, peeled fresh ginger
- 1 Tbsp. five-spice powder
Directions
- Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Step 2In a large roasting pan, place ribs side by side and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Add boiling water to pan. Cover pan tightly with foil. Bake 1 hour 30 minutes or until tender. Uncover ribs.
- Step 3Meanwhile, prepare outdoor grill for direct grilling on medium-low. Prepare sauce: In bowl, stir hoisin sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, and five-spice powder.
- Step 4Grill ribs, bone side down, 5 minutes, brushing with sauce. Turn ribs over; grill 5 minutes, brushing with hoisin mixture. Repeat.
