Gilmore Girls is officially turning 25 years old, and it looks like fans are taking a trip down memory lane in the best way.

The beloved WB series first premiered back in October 2000, and the show introduced fans to a plethora of characters all living in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. As the title of the show implies, Gilmore Girls centered around Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (played by Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel), a mother-daughter duo who experienced love, heartbreak, and all the things that come with a tightly knit bond with one another.

While Gilmore Girls ran for seven seasons and got a Netflix reboot almost a decade later in 2016, folks still love to watch the original show a quarter-century later. Now, it looks like viewers are going to go back to the beginning for the 25th anniversary of the show airing, thanks to the announcement of a brand-new documentary in the works.

Titled Searching For Stars Hollow, a report from The Hollywood Reporter on August 25 notes the film will be a "transformative look at the history of a television show and its characters filled with commentary, criticism, and pop culture scholarship, creating a definitive portrait of one of the most beloved television series of all time." The movie (which is in production at the moment) will also have interviews from members of the Gilmore Girls cast, including Kelly Bishop (Emily Gilmore), Jared Padalecki (Dean Forester), Chad Michael Murray (Tristan Dugray), Keiko Agena (Lane Kim), and plenty more.

When fans uncovered that Searching For Stars Hollow was in the works, many took to social media to voice one thing they instantly noticed. They all commented on the fact Lauren and Alexis weren't involved with the film—a major surprise, given how they played the titular roles on Gilmore Girls.

"And where’s Lorelai and Rory ????" one person lamented on X (formerly Twitter). "25 years later… still no Rory/Lorelai reunion? Bold move 😬," another noted. "Someone should make a documentary called Searching for Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel because we NEED them in this," a different follower added.

While it's unclear why Lauren and Alexis aren't involved with the project, co-director Kevin Konrad Hanna voiced her excitement for fans to see Searching For Stars Hollow when it's all said and done.

"Searching For Stars Hollow will reveal how Gilmore Girls came to life, why it continues to resonate across generations, and how its unique blend of humor, heart and pop culture shaped a devoted worldwide fan community," he shared in an official statement, per Entertainment Weekly. "With an in-depth look at its creation and the connections it continues to foster, this documentary is for fans of the show but also for anyone with an interest in cultural history and how it affects individual lives."

Well, we're certainly excited and looking forward to the end result!
