As America's Got Talent season 20 gets closer to the finale, the competition is getting fiercer. Well, Mel B certainly has thoughts about one particular act—and it looks like she's impressed with what he had to offer.

Military veteran Benjamin Hightower wowed audiences back in June, when his audition with the song "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan aired on NBC. Well, for the August 26 episode of AGT, he tapped into the world of the 1980s by singing a pulled-back live rendition of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up."

As the crowd watched Benjamin sit at a red stand-up piano, the crowd went wild when they realized just how different his interpretation was from the original tune. What's more, when it came time for judges Mel, Simon Cowell, Sofía Vergara, and Howie Mandel to make their comments, the former Spice Girl had an unexpected reaction to the performance.

"I did love it!" she exclaimed in the clip posted on YouTube. "As soon as I recognized the song, I was like, not only is that a brave choice, but it's a real big risk. And I think you pulled it off. I think you committed, you changed it up halfway through. I really enjoyed that. Well done!"

Shortly after Benjamin's performance aired live on TV, he made sure to share his two cents about how incredible the moment was for him.

"So much fun signing this," he wrote in the YouTube comments. "And a lot more in store 🥰 thanks everyone for watching!"

Given how Benjamin's cover of a hit pop song was so different than what folks expected, it was only natural they'd give their thoughts about it, too.

"He Rick Rolled the entire country. Well played," one person penned. "YEAH LETS GOOOO BENJAMIN 🔥🔥🔥 EVERYONE VOTE HIM," another exclaimed. "So good loved this performance," a different follower added.

Now, is this cover guaranteeing that Benjamin will make it to the semifinals on AGT season 20? It looks like we'll have to tune in and see for ourselves!
